The central government has picked up eight cities to undertake projects, which will aim at making public places safe for women. These cities include- Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Lucknow. It is a proud fact that Lucknow has also been chosen on this list and now the work towards making the city a safe place for its women will begin.
All the eight cities have been selected under the ambitious Smart City mission and the projects that each of the city will undertake will be financed from the Nirbhaya fund.
The cities have been asked to submit proposals within one and a half months so that work on the projects can begin soon.
Women safety is a matter of utmost concern and looking at the current scenario, it is evident that crime against women is not at all in control. Without strict laws and the right mindset, it is very difficult to stop crimes against women.
According to sources, the government plans on starting the working from January end next year. Strict surveillance is very important for letting the criminal know, he is being watched. Therefore, there is a need for integrated command and control centers and installation of privately installed CCTV cameras.
Talking about the ongoing services, 1090, is the women power-line that works in favor of women in Uttar Pradesh and helps them fight domestic violence, stalking, and other issues. This app is called Powe Angels of UP Police. Above listed 7 other cities also have their own initiatives, which include- She Teams, Hawkeye Mobile App and Bharosa program of Hyderabad Police, Himmat App, All Women Patrol Van, Shistachar program of Delhi Police, Suraksha App of Bengaluru Police.
