Noida’s highly anticipated Aqua Line metro system was inaugurated on January 25, a day before Republic day and according to data provided by Noida Rail Metro Corporation, it saw a footfall of 11,625 commuters. As per the data, NMRC also distributed over 250 smart cards and sold 11,440 QR code tickets.

The much awaited Aqua Line which runs from Noida Sector 51 and Greater Noida Bus Depot saw a respectable amount of commuters on it’s first day, but the real test of the metro will be today, which is a Monday. Since there are not many commuters on holidays as compared to a weekday, we can assume that the commuter count will skyrocket in the coming days.

The highest count was seen at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida, while in Noida, sectors 51 and 137 saw the maximum footfall. The Aqua Line’s coaches completed 64 trips on its launch day, and covered a distance of 1,906 km in all. Additionally, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation gained a revenue of Rs 3,60,000 from ticket sales and top-ups on Friday.

Aqua Line route

Readers must keep in mind that the Aqua Line does not make use of the same smart cards that are used in other DMRC metro routes. On the first day of the Aqua Line, NMRC let out 266 smart cards. What left commuters in a tizzy was the fact that in order to get a metro card, they would have to produce a valid ID proof, which is not necessary for a normal Delhi Metro smart card. Another new feature is that the Aqua Line will use paper based QR code tickets, a cost saving method adopted by NMRC.

To recall, the Aqua Line metro route is a metro system that plies between Noida and Greater Noida and comes under the wing of NMRC as opposed to other metro routes that come under DMRC. The metro was much awaited by residents in areas such as Noida Sector 137, 145, Pari Chowk and other areas in Greater Noida. The metro connects more areas in Noida and Greater Noida than before, a boon for residents of these areas.

Maharashtra Unlock: BMC issues new relaxations for Mumbai amid lockdown

Mumbai suburban 'local' trains will not resume operations for the general public.

While partial relaxations are awarded to the other 22 cities, the high caseload and emergence of fresh infections in the listed regions have discouraged the administration from withdrawing the restrictions in these regions.

Parallelly, the state has authorised the local civic body to decide the level of curbs in 3 of these 14 districts, namely Mumbai, Mumbai suburban and Thane. As such, the BMC has permitted all shops (except malls) to open here till 10 PM. The local trains will, however, remain shut for all passengers.
