For a long time, Delhiites have been facing the issue of lack of parking spaces at market places, the issue of choked roads and many other traffic related problems. In a move to change this, the NDMC has decided to construct a multilevel parking area in Karol Bagh, a marketplace that was recently pedestrianized to provide a better shopping experience. Here are all the details on the upcoming parking lot at Karol Bagh

What’s the update?

As part of the new move, the ulterior goal of the NDMC is to make the market place more streamlined and to keep a track on the number of vehicles coming there. Additionally, the new multi level parking lot will also help curb the wrongly parked vehicles which are a major nuisance to shoppers.

The NDMC plans to make this parking lot at the same stretch as the Bank Street. As of now, this area is used for surface parking, but the capacity is not enough to handle the massive number of visitors’ vehicles. Though the market has been made pedestrian friendly, this issue of parking spaces is one that is plaguing shoppers.

As of now, construction for the parking lot has not begun but the plan is to have it functional as soon as possible. With the new parking lot, visitors as well as shop owners can park vehicles for a longer time without wrecking the peace of the marketplace.

The NDMC has roped in a few private players who will help them construct the parking lot. Earlier this year, the entire Karol Bagh market underwent major changes and became more pedestrian friendly. As part of this, new street furniture and rules were put into place. As per the rules, vehicles are no longer allowed in the area when shoppers are present. In several other markets also, a similar change has been implemented.

We are glad to see that Karol Bagh market is on it’s way to becoming a much better market place as a whole.
