Taking a flight from the Delhi airport can be a chore owning to its many terminals and huge area. The airport is simply massive and that is why there are intra terminal vehicles that people can use to get from one place to another, within the same terminal.

Now, however, the authorities are planning an Air Train that will help passengers travel between different terminals itself. The Air Train is expected to run between Terminal 3 and the soon to be expanded Terminal 1, which are two of the most high traffic terminals.

What's the update?

Following the expansion of IGI airport's T1, there are plans to connect the two terminals T1 and T3 with one another. This will be made possible with the help of air trains, which will take passengers from one terminal to another.

This will not only change the way that people travel in the airport, but will also make sure that passengers can board flights from other terminals. As of now, entry gates are located within the terminals itself.

With the increase in the number of flights, the need for changing terminals could also arise, which is why these Air Trains will be especially beneficial.

The major reason for the introduction of Air Trains will be to accommodate the massive amount of passengers. As per the predictions, after the expansion of T1 and the construction of a fourth runway, there will be an annual footfall of nearly 10 crore passengers.

A flyover for planes?

The Air Trains will help streamline the passengers and take them from one terminal to another. Apart from just that, there will also be a flyover like lane for aircrafts to taxi between the South and the North part of the airport.

For this, there will be two elevated cross flyovers. The aircrafts can then use the elevated paths to taxi over long distances, without disrupting other outbound flights.
