Rishabh Pant creates history; breaks MS Dhoni’s record

In the ongoing test series between India and Australia, Rishabh Pant crossed MS Dhoni’s milestone of becoming the highest run scoring Indian wicket keeper in an overseas Test match. MS Dhoni had held the record for the past 12 years and it was broken when Pant scored 159 off 189 balls.

Dhoni’s record was capped at 148 runs which he scored in a test series against Pakistan in 2006. To beat the record, Pant hit 15 boundaries and a six, making a score of 159. After the record was broken, team captain Virat Kohli declared the Indian innings at 622/7.

Rishabh Pant broke not one but two records and also became the highest run scoring Asian wicket keeper along with Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 159 runs against New Zealand in 2017.

Additionally, Pant also became first Indian wicket-keeper to score a century in Australia, against Australia in a test match. The news was well received by fans of the sport and Twitter was quick to show their glee.

The wicket keeper made waves and it is certainly one of the most exciting ways to start the year by the Indian team. In the future, we hope to see similar performance by the team.
