With the IPL currently going on, cricket fans have a lot to look forward to. The tournament holds excitement and something different at every turn. With the World Test Championship around the corner, cricket fans can keep the excitement high and guess what? There are now some new rules that the ICC is planning to implement in the Test Championship.
Have a look at them and let us know if you think they are legit or just another April Fool’s prank.
In a Facebook campaign titled “#CricketNotAsYouKnowIt”, the ICC has launched a few new rules. One of them makes it possible for players to enter the field in shorts- in the summers, of course instead of the usual cricket trousers, while another changes the names of dot balls and no balls as we know them. Now, they will be called “Aces” and “Faults” respectively. This is similar to another sport- you guessed it- tennis. Sounds real, doesn’t it?
If you thought these were minor changes, get a load of this. From now, runs scored in the evening session of the test match will count as double- thereby adding more excitement and a new element to the game. In simple terms, the fours will count as eight runs, sixes will count as 12 runs and so on.
Another game changing move is that now, the bowling team can eliminate both batsmen simultaneously. In a new rule under the name “Double Wicket Play”, fielders can catch-out batsmen and at the same time, throw the ball to the wicketkeeper to run out the other player. Though this will be a difficult task, it lends a new plane of strategic planning to the game.
To bring a better understanding of the game, a new rule makes it possible for commentators to be actually present at the field, rather than just in their commentary box. The commentators will be placed behind the slips- to bring you a better picture of the game.
Well, all of these rules seem very real and we’re excited to see how they shape the future of the game. If you think they’re legit or an April Fool’s prank, let us know in the comment box below!
The IPL season has just begun and we’re all already glued to the television screen. For Jaipurites, the IPL is gonna be more than just watching the matches on TV because the city will be host to 7 matches of the Rajasthan Royals. Since there are plenty of matches in the city, you have enough time to visit at least one game and it’s an experience you must not miss, even if you’re not a cricket fan.
This year, Rajasthan Royals’ home ground will be Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur and the ground has undergone all the necessary improvements to keep it up to the standards of the team. This comes as great news for fans of the team and residents of Jaipur.
The team will play their first match today, against Kings XI Punjab at the same ground. This has been a much awaited match by fans of both teams as they have a lot of potential and could change the course of the tournament. Though tickets for this match have already been sold out, you can opt for any of the other matches at Jaipur.
The energy here, at Sawai Mansingh Stadium is going to be throbbing and will be flush with supporters of the Rajasthan team, all of whom will cheer their team to victory. Fans’ support on the home ground has a lot to do with the performance and the team is hard at work to put their best foot forward.
The team will play six other matches against the remaining opposing team. 6 of these matches will be played in Jaipur, while the others will be played at the other teams’ home grounds.
We are very excited to see how the matches in Jaipur pan out and how they go to shape the career of Rajasthan Royals. We’re looking forward to cheering our favourite team this season and will definitely get a ticket to at least one match.
Lucknow has once again missed out on the opportunity to host IPL matches. The venues, schedules and match timings for the IPL 2019 had been announced quite some time ago and Lucknow, to our disappointment will not even host a single match.
Much like 2018, this IPL season started on a frustrating note for Lucknowites. The city had the opportunity to play host for the biggest and the baddest premier league of cricket in the world, yet once again the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium (BRABVICS; previously Ekana) was left out of the list.
Though initial speculations revealed that Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab have expressed an interest in picking BRABVICS as their alternate homeground, but somehow they did not materialise.
Delhi’s Firoz Shah Kotla Stadium is set to host all seven of Delhi Capital’s matches, while Rasthan Royals will play all of their home matches in Jaipur. Lucknow has successfully hosted several domestic matches in the past and even the India v/s West Indies International T20. Which is why it is astounding that Lucknow was left out of the list.
Don’t lose hope though
There’s still a sliver of hope that Lucknow can hang on. The Indian Premier League has still kept the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium in reserve and there’s a small possibility that a match may be conducted here.
The venues for the Qualifier and Eliminator matches have not yet been decided so there’s still a change that India’s third largest stadium might still host a match.
A look at Lucknow's international cricket stadium
Ekana has a seating capacity of 50,000 people, which makes it the third largest in the country and the sixth largest in the world. The stadium has been approved by ICC and BCCI to host day/night matches and has world class facilities for players, fans, VIPs and media personnel. The stadium also has 32 platinum boxes, VVIP & VIP lounges, dining halls & conference halls as well as a media gallery.
For the comfort of players, the stadium also boasts of a separate gym, a players’ pavilion, physiotherapy area, dope testing labs and dispensaries. As the icing on the cake the stadium has an audio visual room, a commentary box and an umpires’ lounge.
So, let’s cross our fingers and hope that the facilities at Lucknow’s stadium are reason enough for the IPL 2019 to hold a match in the city of Nawabs.

In the ongoing test series between India and Australia, Rishabh Pant crossed MS Dhoni’s milestone of becoming the highest run scoring Indian wicket keeper in an overseas Test match. MS Dhoni had held the record for the past 12 years and it was broken when Pant scored 159 off 189 balls.
Dhoni’s record was capped at 148 runs which he scored in a test series against Pakistan in 2006. To beat the record, Pant hit 15 boundaries and a six, making a score of 159. After the record was broken, team captain Virat Kohli declared the Indian innings at 622/7.
Rishabh Pant broke not one but two records and also became the highest run scoring Asian wicket keeper along with Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 159 runs against New Zealand in 2017.
Additionally, Pant also became first Indian wicket-keeper to score a century in Australia, against Australia in a test match. The news was well received by fans of the sport and Twitter was quick to show their glee.
The wicket keeper made waves and it is certainly one of the most exciting ways to start the year by the Indian team. In the future, we hope to see similar performance by the team.
In the recent test series against Australia, India won their first match in Melbourne after nearly 3 decades, claiming the top spot in the world. India won the match by a massive 137 runs and took a 2-1 lead against Australia in their own home ground.
India had set a commendable target of 399 runs which the Aussies struggled to chase. After the washout due to rains, Australia were all out of players at 261 runs, which was what led India to victory. Not only that, the well balanced Indian side played well and the bowlers did their part in getting the other team all out as fast as possible.
India needed 4.3 overs to take the final two wickets as Jasprit Bumrah (3/53) finished with a score of 9 for 86. Ishant Sharma (2/40) took the final wicket as India won their 150th test match. Additionally, Jasprit Bumrah became the first Indian Pacer to take 9 wickets in a single test match in Australia.
The Indian side played their heart and soul out to win a test series in Melbourne after nearly three decades and the twitter citizens are brimming with glee. The end of the year could not have gone better for the Indian team and the fans as well.
Have a look at twitter’s reaction
The Indian team has really outplayed themselves this year and we hope to see more from them in the coming year and the future.
The BCCI recently announced the squad for the T20 series with a few favourites making a comeback. Along with Dhoni, Hardik Pandya and Kedar Jadhav will also play the matches, which is a welcome piece of news for fans. Dhoni will shoulder the wicket-keeping duties for India with Dinesh Karthik being the other keeper in the squad.
Due to his poor performance in the recent series against West Indies and Australia, Rishabh Pant has been dropped from the ODI squad. Apart from Pant, Manish Pandey and Umesh Yadav have also been dropped from the ODI squad and it is unclear when they will be picked again.
The main attraction of the series, for Indian cricket fans, is going to be the beloved ‘Thala’, as fans call him. Previously, ‘Thala’ was dropped from a couple of T20 matches, which, contrary to popular belief, was his own decision. The decision was taken in order to give the more youthful players a chance at showcasing their skills on an international level.
The response from Twitterati was overwhelming. From memes to simple messages, fans and players alike expressed their happiness very creatively by saying ‘Boss is back’, ‘Two minutes silence for those who thought MS Dhoni’s T20 career was over’ and much more. Have a look at some of the best reactions and responses here.
It is plain that the fans got what they wanted. People are optimistic about his performance in the upcoming New Zealand series that will begin from 6th February. They are eager to see Dhoni in his natural habitat- in a T20 match, where the stakes are high and the game is fast paced. Additionally, they are also waiting to see his performance in the series against Australia in the same T20 format.
Like the avid fans, we at KnockSense too are looking forward to see the master perform in a T20 match once again. More details about the squads for T20 and ODI have also been revealed that can be seen here.
