Delhiites are no strangers to long and winding queues at the check-in counters on the airports. These time consuming queues require you to come hours in advance and even after that. Now, however, a new initiative by DIAL aims to cut down the wait times and if you're travelling with just a handbag, you can check yourself in at the time saving express kiosks. What's the buzz?
The fact that you can shave off a few quarter hours out of your waiting times seems like a nice idea, doesn't it? That's exactly what the new express check-in kiosks aim to accomplish- a smoother, faster and a more refined way to check in to airports. This service, however, can only be availed by those passengers who have only hand baggage.
As per reports, DIAL claimed that about 40% of commuters from Delhi were seen to be travelling without check-in baggage and it made no sense for them to stand in long queues for something that they could easily bypass.
In fact, on a single day, terminal 2 handles almost 45,000 domestic passengers of which, 18,000 travel without check-in baggage. Now that they can bypass check-in queues is especially beneficial.
Which terminals will have express kiosks?
Sure IGI is a massive airport with three terminals spanning across a huge area. We're glad to tell you that these self check-in express kiosks will be installed at all the three terminals, just outside the entry gate of the departures terminal.
As of now, kiosks have been positioned only in terminal 2, as a trial run. Soon enough, terminal 1 and terminal 3 will also make use of this facility, making for much faster and quicker check-ins into your flight.
What changes should you expect?
For starters, those that check-in using express kiosks will now go through the thorough security check just after entering the terminal. Following that, they can directly go to the waiting area.
This also means that passengers with only hand baggage, no longer have to reach the airport a couple of hours in advance. In fact, since security will be completed just as travellers go through the gate, the main security check area will see faster moving queues.
