Delhi metro’s long awaited Red Line extension, which will connect Delhi to Ghaziabad, will soon be inaugurated. This metro line will make travelling between the two places much easier and a lot more convenient. From fares, to routes, its launch date, here’s all you need to know about the Red Line expansion.
Why is this red line metro extension important?
Delhi metro is perhaps the lifeline of millions of people in the city. The rail system covers almost the entirety of the national capital and is being expanded to reach non-metro areas. With the Red Line metro expansion, the line will connect Dilshad Garden in Delhi to New Bus Adda in Ghaziabad.
With the expansions of the metro, travelling from Delhi to Ghaziabad will be a breeze. Additionally, it will also be a much cheaper and faster alternative than driving your own car.
What’s the extended route?
Delhi Metro’s Red Line connects Dilshad Garden to Rohini and Rithala. After the expansion, the route will be extended and the last station (or the first, depending on how you look at it) will be New Bus Adda in Ghaziabad. As part of the extension, they have expanded it to have 8 new metro stations covering a distance of about 9kms.
Along the way, it will cover areas such as Shaheed Nagar, Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala, Hindon River and New Bus Adda.
What are the features?
One of the main draw of the extended metro line is that it is entirely elevated. Not only does this mean that you will have a scenic view while travelling, but you will also remain connected to mobile networks. We’re all aware how taxing it can be to travel in an underground train and not have any mobile signal.
Apart from that, of the eight stations in the corridor, six will have interconnected foot over bridges that will allow for easy and seamless change in trains. Additionally, the Hindon River Station will have five floors, while the others will have four. The extra floor is to accommodate parking in the metro station at the ground level.
To make the metro accessible to all, DMRC has ensured that the extended corridor stations in the red line are very user friendly. They have also gone the extra step to make it simple to use and accessible to people with disabilities.
The metro will also cut down travel times from Delhi to Ghaziabad. According to DMRC, it will take around 16 minutes to reach from Dilshad Garden to New Bus Adda and nearly 57 minutes from Rithala to New Bus Adda
When will it be inaugurated?
As of now, there is no date given by the DMRC even though trial runs and inspections have been carried out. The metro has received a green flag in all the areas and it is just a matter of time that we get an expected launch date.
