To all the shopaholics out there, we have the latest news for you. Your travel time is about to shrink by leaps and bounds and we can’t wait! July onwards, major shopping destinations across Delhi, such as INA, Sarojini Nagar, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar will be connected by the metro.

An 8.1 km long stretch of the Pink Line of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) connecting Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus and Lajpat Nagar will be accessible to all.

INA would become an interchange point between the ‘Pink Line’ and ‘Yellow Line’ (Samaypur Badli-HUDA City Centre) when the second section of the Pink Line becomes functional.

In March, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the first corridor of the line which ran between Majlis Park and Durgabai Deshmukh South campus.

The trial runs are still underway. It is estimated that the stretch between Trilokpuri and Shiv Vihar will be completed by August. The stretch between Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 will be functional September onwards.

Currently, the Lajpat Nagar metro is on the Violet line of the metro network. Commuters from various east Delhi areas such as Naraina, Mayapuri, Rajouri Garden and so on will be able to change trains for Gurugram at INA. This will enable the citizens to ditch the detour via Rajiv Chowk.

Investigations by Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety are still underway and the necessary documentation is being completed. Other compulsory approvals are also in the works.
