The Delhi metro has changed the way we travel in the national capital. The metro is constantly evolving into a bigger and better intra city rail system. The latest expansion of the metro was when the Blue Line was expanded till several areas in Noida and now, the government has approved the construction of an extension from where the current Yellow Line route ends. As part of the expansion, 25 new stations will be built and connected to Gurugram’s rapid transit metro.
What’s the update?
Construction of the metro route was approved on Monday by the Haryana government. As of now, the Yellow Line takes commuters all the way to HUDA City Center but now, the route will be extended to connect older parts of Gurugram as well.
The total length of the upcoming corridor will be around 30-kilometers, which means that the 25 new stations will connect more areas in the city than ever before. What’s more is that the at the terminating station, the route will also connect to the rapid metro system. The goal is to have the new metro route up and running by 2024.
The upcoming expansion of the Yellow Line metro is expected to include areas such as Sector 45, Cyber Park, Sector 46, Sector 47, Sector 48, Technology Park, Udyog Vihar Phase 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai, Sector 9, Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Krishna Chowk, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23 A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phase 4 and 5. Residents of these areas have long been plagued by the issue of poor connectivity and a lack of a proper public transport system.
Additionally, a 2-kilometer stretch from Basai to Dwarka Expressway has also been proposed along with another stretch from Sector 22 to Cyber City Rapid Metro- almost 3-kilometers, has also been proposed. Plans for both the stretches have been approved.
The extension plan is said to cost around ₹6,000 crores and once the money is sanctioned to the metro authorities, they plan to begin work as soon as possible. As for the ridership, the authorities have big plans for the future of this metro route and expect to see the daily footfall skyrocket.
