Beating its own records, NHAI is all set to work on Delhi – Mumbai Expressway in March and it is a huge surprise for sure!

It has just been less than a year after the government announced to build the signal-free access controlled corridor between the two metropolitan cities and we’re excited about the short travel time which was much needed in case we couldn’t afford immediate flights!

The highways authority fast-tracking the project, is set to cut down the travel time between the two cities by 12.5 hours and currently it takes minimum of 25 hours to actually travel!

NHAI has received several bids for 6 stretches totaling 173 kms in Haryana and Rajasthan, which will be awarded by the end of January!

It is also expected that the other 22 stretches will be awarded by mid February!

One of the officials was quoted saying, “The land acquisition is at the last stage in Haryana. We will be in a position to start work any time between February 15 and March second week.”

Passing through five states, this will be the longest expressway in India. NHAI has acquired about 12,000 hectares for the project and professionals have been contributing eminently to speed up the process!

While Vadodara-Mumbai stretch is under way, NHAI has divided the rest into 34 stretches so that work can begin simultaneously.

Officials also stated, “Now there is a clear line of action. We have fast-tracked the land acquisition process and since the expressway mostly passes through uninhabited areas, getting land is easy. For each package we are getting at least four bidders and all of them are good performing contractors. Since the works are fully funded by government, construction can start soon!”

For quicker results, the authority will follow the same model for construction as for Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) in the NCR and Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME).

Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE)

The expressway will have closed tolling system and no toll plaza on the carriageway which means that people will have to pay for the exact kilometers they travel.

The toll booths will be at the entry and exit points to calculate the distance travelled to make things easier.

The entire project is said to be completed by March 2022!
