Earlier this year, the Delhi government had announced that it would open a 24x7 vet clinic in the city to ensure that all pet owners have a place to go to if their companions don’t feel so good. Now, following the success of the first clinic, the Delhi government plans to set up three more such hospitals and clinics in different areas of the city.

In January, the first round the clock clinic for pets was set up and many pet owners breathed a sigh of relief. It was one of the first 24x7 clinics and residents of the city were very welcoming of it.

Following on the success of the first one, the existing pet clinics in Ghazipur in East Delhi and Palam in South Delhi will be converted into 24x7 treatment centers for ailing birds and other animals. Apart from these two, a completely new one with facilities such as X-ray machines, and ultrasounds will come up at Northern Delhi.

As of now, there are over 70 government run pet clinics across the city. Many of these see a daily influx of around 80 to 100 animals, which is a massive figure in itself. Now that three of these will become 24x7 clinics comes as icing on the cake.

Currently, most of them operate from around 10 in the morning to 4 in the evening. Since many pet owners are either students or workers, it is not feasible for them to take their pets to these clinics. With the help of the 24x7 clinics, however, they can take their furry friends to the clinic whenever a problem arises. Once open, the clinics will initially be open for 12 hours and after the machines are procured, it will be converted into a round the clock vet clinic.

At the same time however, it must be kept in mind that a total of 4 such clinics is not enough. Many residents of other areas too have pets and are unable to take them to clinics as they are located rather far from their place of residence. As for the existing clinics themselves, facilities need to be improved and worked on so as to give the animals better care and treatment.
