Travelling from Delhi to Gurugram (or vice versa) has, over time, become a breeze for commuters. With the help of the NH-8, they can bypass crowded areas and make use of the massive 36 lane route to get to their destination as quickly and smoothly as possible. However, soon, travelling by this route could pose a problem as 14 lanes of the National Highway will be closed down until further notice. Well, it’s time to steel yourself up against the inevitable traffic jams.

What’s the update?

The existing 36 lane NH-8 road just adjacent to Ambience Mall, Gurugram will be partially blocked as a result of construction work that is underway at the area. The construction is being done to create an underpass that can be used by commuters to take quick U-turns without having to travel much far ahead.

However, to make way for infrastructural activities, the plan is to close down 14 lanes. In turn, this will make travelling from the area nothing short of a massive problem, but since this is the most favoured route from Gurugram to Delhi, we don’t expect a lot of people to deviate from their daily route.

The details of the road closure

Earlier, when the work for the underpass had begun, five lanes of NH-8 were closed. Following that, the number rose to 9 and soon enough, 14 lanes will be closed. Authorities have stated that their aim is to complete the underpass tunnel as soon as they can and get the road back up and running.

Additionally, they have also stated that the traffic cops present in the area will be responsible for managing traffic in an orderly, streamlined fashion. The route sees about 3.5 lakh vehicles on a daily basis and with the closure of a section of the road, we don’t even want to think of the traffic jams it will ensue.

As of now, no date has been given as to when the work on the underpass will be completed and we can only hope that they open up the roads before road closure turns out to be a major issue.
