It's that time of the year once again when people go bonkers over resolutions and making pacts. Statistics say that people spend the most on Gym memberships and subscriptions during the first month of the year and if you too are looking to join the bandwagon, well hear us out first.
Rather than spending a lot of your money on a gym membership that you won't take advantage of after the first two month of the year, here are 7 things you can do without spending a ton of money. Plus, these resolutions will be easier to complete than the rigorous body-changing workout most people choose.
1. Keep yourself hydrated
Well, this is the easiest of all resolutions- just drink more water. Water is one small thing that you can change in your life with just a little effort. Keeping a personal bottle to track your water intake, drinking at least 2 litres water daily and notice the change in your body. The water will not only help your body transform but is also the first step towards healthier skin, shinier hair and better nails. Only drinking when you're thirsty is like starving your body for food, so keep drink more and drink regularly.
2. Put yourself first & learn to say no
Learning to say No is a big thing, you should be doing this year. With the word turning into a giant barrel of crabs, where one tries to bring others down, putting yourself first should be your biggest resolution. A lot of us find it difficult to say no to others even when we know that we're being taken for granted. So with the start of the decade try to be more loving towards your own self and say NO.
3. Indulge in activities that make you forget your phone
With the turn of the decade we saw a huge shift in our lifestyles and one of these changes was social media. Social media has become an important part of our lives, with people having pseudo lives and pseudo identities over the internet. So take a step back, find things that make you put your phone away. Plus, stop the toxic scrolling, which is a very big contributor to low self-esteem and depression. Indulge more in regular day to day activities which could include taking care of your pet, spending time with your family or keeping a hobby.
4. Your mental health is important too
Another big thing you should focus on this decade is your mental health. With much awareness on mental health and well being, taking care of your mind is an important aspect of being 'healthy'. Make sure to unplug from social media, meditate and even seek help if help is what you need. Opt for counselling sessions or just be more open about your problems to the people you love, small steps can make a huge difference in your life.
5. Stop procrastinating and set new career goals!
This decade you should also focus more on your career goals. If you've been wanting to make a change in your career and have been apprehensive about it, now is the time to take the leap of faith. Take the course you've been wanting to, quit the job that's been wringing the happiness out of your life or just learn a new language. Invest in a career that you want to have. So go ahead and buy those ballet shoes or the camera that you've been eyeing last year.
6. Be more conscious towards the environment
Another thing that we can all make a habit, is becoming more conscious towards the environment. The climate is changing rapidly and we have seen the impact of this man-made disaster on the planet. So if you've been wishing to do your part, now is the time. Switching to a vegan diet, using public transport more frequently, are just two of the many things we could do to save the environment but they will create a major impact.
Plant more trees, opt for a variety of veggies for daily consumption, make less waste, choose metal straws, carry your own bag while shopping, maybe switch from packaged grains to unpackaged ones or try switching off the AC once in a while.
7. Eat good
This year try to be more conscious of what you put in your body. Make a point to avoid junk foods, fried and overly sweet stuff, practise eating in small portions. Maybe just cancel out sugar from your diet, eat less meat, pick natural refreshments like lemon water over mocktails and soft drinks, avoid over processed foods. Even choosing to not eat out as much can help you achieve your health goals.
So before you spend your money on gym memberships, try out these resolutions and see for yourself how well you can keep them. You can even choose to pick a few and stick to them or follow the entire list and become your own idol.
