The much awaited Aqua Line metro that is supposed to provide relief to the commuters to and fro from Greater Noida, Noida and Delhi alike, suffers a tiny hiccup in its swift progress.

The metro line got a green signal after its safety inspection on 21st this month and was supposed to be inaugurated on 25th by PM Modi, but wasn’t. The line is now expected to be a New Year’s present for the residents.

The solar powered metro line of NCR region, will connect the less accessible areas in Noida and Greater Noida to those of Delhi and Gurugram. Aqualine Metro has recently been approved for use after the examinations and test rides by Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC). The delay hence, comes as a sour taste for the commuters who were eagerly waiting for their daily travels to become smoother.

Commuters will also have to change metros several times to reach important stations since the Aqua Line is not linked to any of the major ones directly. The Aqua line metro’s Sector 51 station that falls under NMRC is not connected to Noida City Center metro station that falls under the wing of DMRC, which is hardly 250 meters away. However, areas in Noida such as sector 137, 142, 50, and in Greater Noida, Pari Chowk, Alpha 1, Delta 1 are among those, that will be connected via the new line.

Another disappointing fact is that the commuters coming in from Delhi to Noida-Greater Noida and vice-versa will have to use different metro cards for their travels through the Delhi Metro Line and the Noida Metro Line. Let’s say someone travelling from Sector 51 metro station (Aqua line: NMRC) through Noida City Center (Blue Line: DMRC) will first take an e-rickshaw, auto-rickshaw or any other form of public transport to change lines and then use a different card during their commute further.
