Aqua Line’s initial run & passengers already upset about the absence of women’s coach

The commuters of Aqua Metro Line have started complaining of the lack of women’s coach. This comes just after 4-days of its commercial launch. According to the authorities, the metro only has 4 coaches and each coach has reserved seats for women thus currently it doesn’t require a fixed women coach.

The newly launched metro line has once again come under speculations because of the lack of a separate women’s coach. Much like Gurugram’s Rapid Metro the Aqua Line does not have a coach reserved specifically for women, unlike the first coaches of most metro trains under Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s wing which are. Several passengers have voiced their concern for the same, but the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) says that it has no immediate plans of introducing a women’s coach.

PD Upadhyay, executive director, NMRC justified it by explaining that the metro trains only have four cars and each car already has 16 seats reserved for women, elderly and differently abled. These seats are specifically marked different colour to avoid any confusions.

The Aqua Line Metro is expected to witness heave footfalls of commuters, on Day 1 alone, 11,625 passengers traveled through the metro line and it will only grow. Though, on the first Monday most of the passengers were left in a quandary over filling forms and collecting paper tickets. The issue was that the passengers habitual with the ease of Delhi Metro, were aghast because they had to fill lengthy forms with real address proofs and stand in long queues to simply collect the metro cards. The new paper tickets with QR codes were rendered useless once folded over and all of this combined lead to students being late to their classes and officials late for work.

These glitches left the passengers so aghast that some even said that they would rather take the bus from Botanical Garden to Pari Chowk than deal with the queues and the forms. Some were also disappointed about the lack of connectivity between the Noida City Center metro station, currently the last of the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line and Sector 51 metro station that is few kilometers away.

Passengers have been waiting patiently for the metro line as it connects faraway places in Noida and Greater Noida that lack direct connectivity with the mainland areas. The project took shape to provide relief to the passengers travelling to and fro from Greater Noida-Noida and Delhi. The area sees a huge number of footfall because of the presence of various offices and academic institutes, which is why the line was looked up to be a blessing for the daily commuter. Even though the NMRC has put up signs letting passengers know that the tickets can’t be folded over, in various metro stations, there is still a lot to improve.

We certainly hope that NMRC can solve these issues quickly and help the passengers have a smooth and quick commute.
