Each of us have faced major traffic knots at crucial moments and known that traversal in Delhi is no small feat. To get by, the average Delhiite looks to make use of the DTC buses, the metro or mostly, their own vehicles. At the same time, finding parking spaces in Delhi is a massive chore in itself and this results in haphazard parking in many places, especially near metro stations. Now, in a new development, the PWD and DMRC are aiming to clear up roads near 29 major metro stations and are looking to curb traffic issues that emerge from wrongly parked vehicles.
As is the case right now, the metro stations are usually plagued with the issue of illegally parked vehicles. Since these vehicles are parked at the sides of the main roads, it leads to massive traffic blocks in the area. Now, to curb this, 29 stations across Delhi will be made parking friendly as they are all set to get new lots and revamped spaces for parking.
With the help of the new changes, the traffic surrounding these 29 metro stations will become more streamlined.
At many stations, the committee has recommended the development of multi-modal traffic bays and table-top pedestrian crossings. The officials said that table-top crossings make road crossings easy and safer for pedestrians. Since they also double up as speed breakers they forcing vehicles to slow down while allowing pedestrians to cross the road without stepping off the pavement.
Several other major recommendations include shifting of the halt-and-go zone behind the exit of subway near Gate 5 at Hauz Khas and changes in direct pedestrian linkage from this station to Janakpuri District Centre.
At Panchsheel, an integrated parking facility will be developed, while seamless connectivity with the railway station has been recommended at Nizamuddin. Additionally, at Vasant Vihar station, traffic flow is affected by waterlogging and to streamline traffic, percolation pits will be created.
The upcoming move by the PWD and the DMRC will benefit pretty much everyone in the national capital. One of the main advantages is that it will enhance the travel experience of not just metro users, but also those that use their own vehicles.
Since the metros are located in central areas of the city, they will greatly improve the traffic condition of the city. As of now, no date has been given for the completion of the project, but in the next few months, we should see a major change.
