Development of Phase II of Chandni Chowk is expected to start by this Sunday
Buyers looking to visit Chandni Chowk this Sunday for a purchase spree are in for a disappointment. Following the news of Chandni Chowk being redeveloped, it has been revealed that one stretch of the road from Fountain Chowk to Town Hall will be closed as Phase II of the development project kicks off. Read on to know more about Chandni Chowk and the redevelopment.
As part of the herculean project to entirely revamp Chandni Chowk, there are several areas that will undergo major changes. Phase I was the stage where the Red Fort road underwent an overhaul. This route is expected to be open by the end of October.
As for Phase II, which will cover the area from Fountain Chowk to Town Hall, it is set to kick off from Sunday.
Since this is a major revamping of an integral part of Delhi, it is vital that the essence and charm of the place is kept intact.
To achieve this, the planners have been thorough with their work. Installation of new street furniture such as benches, new street lights and of course, plantation of flora are just the beginning. Over time, the structures themselves will undergo renovation so that they are brought back to their former glory.
Apart from that, it is also possible that the PWD will adopt a non motorised vehicle (NVM) plan. This could be done to tone down the amount of traffic you see in the lanes of Chandni Chowk. For what it's worth, we're glad that this stretch will become an NVM zone.
Not just that, the stretch of road will undergo change from the ground up. The roads will be dug up to make way for better sanitation as new underground pipelines are laid. Once that's complete, the roads will be reconstructed with red bricks, retaining the old world charm of the entire area.
When you see these few stretches of road next, you will be able to spot a whole lot of differences. However, the wait is what is so jarring and for a couple of months at least, we'll have to settle for another shopping destination.
