Delhi's Odd-Even rule that comes in place once every year is making a comeback again in 2019. Initially a move that was condemned, it reaped some promising results that has led to an improvement in Delhi's air and brought about a change in the traffic condition in the city. On the whole, the Odd-Even rule has been rather multifaceted. This time it's making a comeback from November 04 to November 15, here's all you need to know about it.
First implemented in 2015, the rule has come a long way. Tackling air pollution and Delhi's declining traffic condition, it is one that helps the city as a whole.
Though there are naysayers about the same move, this is one rule that actually benefits Delhi and its residents. As per previous reports, air pollution during odd-even implementation has gone down by 10 to 13%.
How the Odd-Even rule functions is that owners of vehicles must first identify their registration numbers and the last digit will determine whether your vehicle is fit for usage on a given day. On one day, only vehicles with numbers that end with odd numbers will be allowed on roads, while on other days, vehicles that end with even numbers will ply on roads.
Though the basic premise of the rule is rather simple, it is one that can actually prove to be very beneficial, depending on how successful the implementation is.
Owing to this, it should technically cut down the number of vehicles on city roads by half. However, this is not exactly true because many people tend to bring out their vehicles anyway.
At its core, this is one move that focuses on keeping Delhi's air pollution free, urges more people to use public transport and pushes forward an idea of a more streamlined and less crowded Delhi.
To get from one place to another, people are urged to carpool with others make use of Delhi Metro or the extensive and well connected DTC bus routes that are extremely useful for travelling the innards of Delhi.
Since odd even rule will be implemented post Diwali from November 04 to November 15, we can safely say that the air will indeed be in for some purification.
