We've all been in a situation when we're in the metro, scrolling through Reddit, and just as we enter an underground tunnel, the mobile data gives up. Or you're on an important call and it immediately gets dropped. Well, not any more because the DMRC is planning to modernize the entire Delhi Metro by installing wifi in metro trains. Very soon, commuters on the Delhi Metro trains can avail of free unlimited wifi not just at stations, but in the trains as well.

Since the first metro stations in Delhi to get wifi facility were the stations along airport metro route, it is only fitting that these are the trains which will get on board wireless internet. For the future, the DMRC has plans to expand the facility to other metro trains as well, expect for Magenta Line which connects Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden in Noida and Pink Line trains.

Following the installation of wifi on airport metro trains, the Blue Line will be the route that will get this facility. As for the installation itself, the DMRC has employed a rather clever method and aim to deliver up to 300mbps unlimited download speeds. The cables from the existing wifi networks at the stations will be extended all the way till the tunnels which will further be installed with boosters.

In addition to that, there will be portable base stations at the head coaches of each of the trains which will then provide a wireless network that users can connect to. The best part about the wifi in metro trains is that they offer high speed internet and unlimited download for all passengers.

Not only will you be endlessly be able to watch YouTube videos, but you can also download important files on the go and stay productive in the metro.

This is a step that brings Delhi Metro closer to being a future proof public transport in the National Capital.
