Who's up for a road trip?
When you think of travelling from Delhi to Mumbai, opting for a flight or a train seems like the viable option. No one in their right minds would imagine driving all the way, right?
Well, think again folks, because there's a massive new highway coming up that will connect Delhi and Mumbai in just one stretch. Though this project seems rather ambitious, it is certainly something that we're looking forward to.
The centre has just allocated over 1 lakh crores for the purpose of this project. The high speed corridor itself is rather ambitious in it's aim. The goal is to connect Delhi to Mumbai in one single stretch, making it one of India's longest high speed corridors ever.
As of now, the corridor is on a fast track to completion. The Highway minister of India, Nitin Gadkari stated that the workers have been constructing roads of up to 30 kilometers every day. This is a major feat in itself, and if the trend continues, the 1540-kilometer long corridor could be complete sooner than you think.
Along its lengthy route, the high speed corridor will cross many major states, including Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana. The route will help commuters from Delhi to these states quite a lot. Apart from that, it includes 24 industrial regions, eight smart cities, two international airports, five power projects, two mass rapid transit systems, and two logistical hubs.
Though the main reason for the construction of this corridor is to give the people high speed road connectivity between two of India's biggest metropolitan cities, it will also serve as a great cargo route. Logistics will be improved and industrial areas will be empowered more than ever.
This project is going to change many things when it comes to travel between Delhi and Mumbai. Not only will the transport business boom, we can all gear up for one of the longest road trips of our lives!
