Delhiites are known to party hard and there's no denying that. However, after a night of partying hard and heavy drinking, you've got to get back home but there's one thing you should never do- driving while under the influence alcohol. Though of late many people have started making use of cabs and taxis after parties, many still tend to drive their own vehicles. This may be put to an end because the authorities have decided to impose a fine of ₹10,000 on those caught red handed- and red eyed.
As part of the new move by the Delhi government and the traffic police, the new rule will be put to use as soon as possible. The reason behind this is that the drunk drivers not only put their own lives at risk, but also other people's. This is a huge issue that is plaguing Delhi and we're glad to see that something is being done about it.
With the new rule to impose fines of up to ₹10,000 it would certainly dissuade a large number of people from driving under the influence of alcohol.
Additionally, the authorities will also aim to send a message that they are dead serious about drunk driving in Delhi. For a long time now, the issue has not been treated seriously. With the new fines in place, it should strike fear into people's minds. In turn, it would lead to a rise in the number of people using cabs.
At any rate, there's no point in going out for a fun night only to have it ruined by someone driving at high speed while not in full control of themselves. Since this is a threat to not just that person, but to others as well, the ₹10,000 fine is justified.
Well, the next time you're out drinking with friends, either have a designated driver or just book a cab so that you and those around you remain safe and you don't have a hefty fine on your head.
