Honestly, staying in an Indian household where we eat desi food everyday, the sheer thought of going vegan is simply ludicrous! Vegan means no animal products as well- that includes our daily dose of cheese-bread, milk tea or creamy coffee!
So it’s a tough task to switch over and we can’t even imagine doing it religiously- our food cravings > healthy food options!
Also, our vegan options are almost nil here and all these just sum it up as- just stick to regular food.
Since we never actually visited a joint which serves vegan food and had only seen vegan food videos on Instagram- we decided to delve into the adventure of visiting the Greenr Cafe at Vasant Vihar!
Did we regret it? Was it boring?! Is it all just too firangi for our desi hearts?
Hell to the NO! Cafe Greenr blew us away and how!
Hot Chocolate with Almond Milk (Drink) – 7/10
Iced Mocha (Drink) – 5/10
Ragi Nachos Plate – 9/10
Tokyo Teriyaki Tofu (Roll) – 7.5/10
Manali Super Hemproot Pizza – 9/10
Casava Root Fries – 8.5/10
Psychedelic Purple Smoothie – 8/10
Chocolate Ganache and Wild Berry (Dessert) – 8.5/10
Service: Polite and Professional staff- the manager was really sweet and recommended dishes according to our preference.
Servings: The Pizza and Nachos were enough for two people. The quantity of fries was a bit less but sufficient for one person. The roll could be easily shared between two.
Greenr Cafe is an amalgamation of a retail section selling tea and jewellery along with a café specializing in vegan food. This place is perfect for conscious eaters and experimental foodies because they serve food based on the concepts of sustainable living and healthy eating.
Food mainly contains unrefined and unprocessed ingredients which is a rare find. All sorts of milks and condiments are made in-house which makes it organic and fresh. They have successfully portrayed that sustainable and vegan foods can be easily made at home- it ain’t rocket science!
Not the cheapest café around but they’ve still tried making healthy food accessible to all who are willing to invest in their health. Regular Workshops are also held at the café and they’re soon planning on introducing their spring menu!
Nachos Ragi Plate and Hemp-root Pizza, even though were made from everything healthy- tasted delish and tbh, the nachos tasted better than regular ones. It is the perfect option for when you’re on a diet but your cravings are shooting off the roof!
Iced Mocha is perfect for someone who loves strong coffee. But for a person who doesn’t prefer a lot of coffee, hot chocolate is a good alternative. Psychedelic Smoothie contained hemp protein and was completely vegan and gluten-free. It complemented the Tofu Roll and we couldn’t get over it! Chocolate Ganache was filling and served with caramelized walnuts and raspberry sauce. They also use Jaggery instead of refined sugar which lessens our calorie intake for sure.
When the Manager said, “Being healthy and green is fun and doesn’t have to be boring”, we actually felt that!
