Hindon airport in Ghaziabad becomes NCR’s 2nd airport

Delhi is one of the biggest and constantly growing cities of India and for good reason. The national capital is home to many budding businesses and is also a major tourist destination. If, for some reason, you thought it wasn’t well connected, there’s good news for you. The Hindon Air Force Base in Ghaziabad will now be a shared space between Airports Authority of India and the Indian Air Force .

The Hindon Air Base commercial flights area was inaugurated a few days back by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the RCS-UDAN scheme. The goal of the airport authorities is to make travel to many places in India more affordable.

From the new airport, flights will depart to tier-2 and tier-3 cities such as Nasik in Maharashtra, Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, Kannur in Kerala, Hubli in Karnataka, Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, Jamnagar in Gujarat and Kalaburgi (Gulbarga) in Karnataka will become operational.

The new airport may be a domestic airport but it has facilities to match any international one. The airport covers an area of 5425 square metres and the new Hindon airport has a peak hour handling capacity of 300 passengers. It has two arrival carousel, eight check-in counters, four frisking booths and car parking with a capacity of handling 90 cars.

Apart from that, the airport also has a double insulated roofing system, double skinned insulated wall panel, LED lighting, low heat gain glazing and rainwater harvesting system.

Over ₹40 crores have already been spent on the airport and it is expected to greatly boost the number of travellers from the above mentioned cities. We are eager to see how this development affects the city and what possibilities it holds.

While the airport has already been inaugurated, the services are expected to start from May this year.
