Over the past few years, the pollution crisis in Delhi has been rising at an alarming rate. Lack of initiative to use public transport, traffic jams, crowded areas and not to mention the great industrial areas in Delhi, are major contributors to this detrimental factor.

Now, to precisely gauge how much pollution is being spread by cluster buses, students from IIT Delhi have come up with an app that monitors how much pollution a single bus causes. Read on to know more.

As of now, these sensors have not been installed in cluster buses but the plan is to implement them as soon as possible. The sensors will be especially beneficial when the AQI takes a substantial dip and the authorities will be able to gauge how much of it was caused by these buses.

The goal is to implement these on 200 cluster buses. Once the air pollution sensors are deemed to be a step in the right direction, the authorities will begin the process of implementing it on a larger scale across the city. As per the current plan, these devices should be put in place by August of this year.

The sensors developed by IIT Delhi students will be put to place in the buses through partnership with Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS). The sensors will help the respected authorities gain an insight about the PM particles being spread by the buses. Following this, the authorities will also take the necessary steps to curb emissions and on the whole, encourage Delhiites to use buses on a larger scale.

Though the monsoons are almost here, the summers have been the one of the worst in the past few years and have contributed to the growing pollution. The consumption of air conditioners and personal vehicles in the city, has increased more than ever before, which is why the pollution too on an increase.
