When it comes to Delhi, the traffic woes are endless. One can never predict how bad the traffic at any given place is going to be. Generally, the city witnesses massive traffic jams in some of the high intensity areas and during peak hours, there’s really no respite from it. In Saket however, residents and office workers have much to celebrate because now, there are plans to completely redesign the more crowded spaces around the place. Here’s all you need to know about it.
The first major overhaul will begin from Press Enclave Road to Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg. From Press Enclave Road, commuters get quick and easy access to commercial complexes and several other areas such as Khirki Village, Hauz Rani, Malviya Nagar and a few more. Here, the roads will be made wider and also, a few underpasses will be built to ensure a smoother travel for daily commuters.
As per the PWD’s plan the goal is to not only help ease traffic, but also make the place more pedestrian friendly. As part of this, they plan to remove all shops which have encroached the roads to make way for cyclists and walkers.
The redevelopment will also hit another choke point in Delhi’s traffic- Chirag Delhi intersection, which is where the outer Ring Road meets Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg. Throughout the day, this area is highly crowded and leads to long traffic snarls.
The third road which will witness an overhaul is going to be along Madangir stretch. Here, the goal is to not only make it better for vehicle owners, but also to beautify it in general, and provide hawkers with ample space beside the roads.
In most of the areas, the plan is to simply widen the roads. At some places, the PWD aims to make massive flyovers and underpasses that will certainly help with traffic issues. With the help of the new roads, commuters can totally bypass the high traffic areas and get to their destination much faster.
Saket is home to probably one of the most happening malls in the city and the footfall here is massive. Many shoppers commute to the place via their own vehicles and often times, this leads to traffic snarls around the mall complex.
Apart from that, even roads near the hospitals and office spaces are generally always jam packed. Office goers have it especially bad as during the peak rush hour timings- both in the morning as well as the evening, traffic here is unbearable.
As of now, only the planned proposal for the make over has been approved. Authorities have stated that when the work finally does start, it will be done in several phases. As per the current proposal, it should take the PWD approximately a year to make the roads fully functional and operational.
At any rate, we are happy to see that the PWD is taking a step in the right direction with their plan to decongest the areas. In the future, many other areas of Delhi could also benefit from a design overhaul and we’re eager to see the traffic finally coming under control.
