After a month long wait Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC)’s ambitious Aqua Line Metro project is finally seeing the light of day. The metro line is all set to be inaugurated tomorrow by Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath.

The metro line’s inauguration has been delayed for a month now. Initially, the metro line was supposed to be inaugurated on December 25 by Prime Minister Modi and CM Adityanath jointly, but because of some issues the plan could not come to fruition.

The 23.9 kilometer long solar power run metro project is Noida Metro Rail Corporation’s independent endeavour that will be overseen and run by the Delhi Metro rail Corporation (DMRC) in its initial year. This metro project connects the interiors of Noida and the much neglected Greater Noida area and aims to provide relief to the passengers commuting daily from the twin cities.

The aqua line metro has a total of 21 stations and runs between Sector 71 station in Noida and Depot station in Greater Noida, namely- Sectors 71, 50, 78, 101, 81, Dadri Road, Sectors 83, 137, 142, 143, 144, 145, 146, 147, 148, Knowledge Park II, Pari Chowk, Alpha 1, Delta 1, GNIDA Office, Depot Station.

Admittedly the most exhausting part about the Aqua Line Metro is its lack of connectivity with Delhi Mero Rail Corporation’s existing Blue Line. The passengers travelling from the blue line will have to de-board at Noida City Center metro station and then look for other means of transportation to finaly reach the Aqua Line’s Sector 71 Metro station, and vice versa.

Since, the Aqua Line Metro falls under NMRC’s wing the passengers will not be able to use the same metro cards during their travels. The DMRC metro card will be limited to the blue line and from Sector 71 onward the passengers will have to use the Noida Metro’s metro card.

Metro is perhaps the cheapest way to commute over long distances without burning a hole in your pocket and Aqua Line is no different. The fares will start from ₹9 for short distances and will go up to a maximum of ₹50.

Commuters have been looking forward to boarding the Aqua line for some time now owing to the delay in it’s inauguration. The trial runs and safety inspections had been completed in December itself and the line got it’s clearance on December 21. The metro line will finally be operational after 25th January while the work on Phase 2 of NMRC’s Aqua Line, from Sector 72 to Knowledge Park V is also expected to begin this year.
