We’ve all faced issues when it comes to travelling the last mile distance after getting off the Delhi metro. Often times, there are no buses or autos and sometimes, the autowallas tend to ask for exorbitant amounts of money. The only option left then is to book a cab. Now, in a new move by DMRC, this process is all set to get much easier. Soon, 218 stations will get kiosks that can be used to book cabs from app services.

For a trial run of the kiosks, DMRC had already installed 5 of these at stations such as Dwarka Sector 21, Sikanderpur, M.G Road, Noida Sector 18 and of course, Rajiv Chowk. These were part of a pilot run and after seeing the great response, DMRC will now plant these at more stations.

The need for kiosks

The app services are very useful for those who have a smartphone but booking one from the kiosks will give you an option to choose your specific pick up points. The move will be beneficial to students, office goers and especially women as cabs are much safer than autos and e-rickshaws, owing to the fact that they can be tracked.

The kiosks will also provide information about booked cabs, locations of nearby cabs, fare details and a lot more. To set up the kiosks, DMRC has demarcated 400 spaces in 218 stations out of the total 271. The cab services will be both Ola and Uber, meaning you can choose whichever has a lower price. The best part is that you no longer have to worry about mobile data and connectivity when booking the cabs!

How will they work?

The kiosks will enable the cab aggregators to park vehicles within the station, thereby making for quicker and more accessible services. The kiosks will work almost similar to the mobile app and they will be made more user friendly so as to benefit older people and those who are not well versed with the technology.

Apart from the cab services, DMRC has also tied up with private operators to provide last mile connectivity solutions to commuters. These include e-rickshaws and cycle sharing services which, they have made use of in the past.

We feel that this is a great move and it helps create a better and safer last mile option for commuters using the Delhi Metro.
