The odd-even scheme commenced on the 4th of November and will be valid from 8 am to 8 pm, except on Sundays, till the 15th.
Delhi has been vigorously fighting the rising levels of air contamination in the city- especially during this period of the year. To contribute to this initiative, taxi-cab services, Ola and Uber have chipped in to make Delhizens and their pockets heave a sigh of relief.
Recently, Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had stated that the odd-even rule will once again be implemented from November 4th to 15th, in a bid to lower the air pollution levels in the capital. Keeping the announcement in mind, cab aggregators, Uber and Ola have declared that there will be no surge pricing during this phase.
Uber had announced last month that it will cap the surge fees during the implementation of this initiative and soon, Ola followed suit.
According to India Today, Arun Srinivas, the chief sales and marketing officer at Ola, stated, “Continuing our efforts to provide commuters an optimum and seamless experience, we will have no peak pricing on rides booked on the Ola platform during the odd-even period. We encourage all driver-partners, passengers and citizens to participate and make the third edition of the scheme a success.”
Ola has also mentioned that it will be coordinating with driver-partners to ensure ample availability of cabs, autos, bikes and shared cabs throughout this time-period and even during peak hours. This will also reduce congestion in areas which are prone to long hours of traffic and honestly, we can’t wait for the third phase of this scheme to begin.
According to further reports by the Delhi government, auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers have also been notified not to over-charge commuters during this period.
The enforcement of this odd-even scheme will offer us a chance to save up some cash, especially for people who travel long distances on a daily basis and we’re glad!
The odd-even scheme has been established with the core motivation of decreasing the soaring pollution levels and we can hope for a successful enactment, only if we all act together.
