Delhiites rejoice! Commuting in the DTC buses and DMRC metros just got a whole lot convenient. With Delhi Government’s ‘ONE’ card, you can traverse in the bus or the metro using just the single card, without having to pay cash.
The move comes after a long wait. The goal of the government with the ONE card is to provide seamless and cheaper intra city travel by making use of a common card for Metro and DTC bus service. Additionally, the cards will enable commuters to avail discounts on both transport media. The card was launched by transport minister Kailash Gahlot and a few other officials on 3rd December at a bus depot in Delhi.
Earlier this year, the government had launched a smart card, the mobility card, for buses with which the commuters could take advantage of 10% discount fares on buses. With the re-branding of the metro card as ONE card, the government aims to provide Delhiites with a seamless experience in the city’s public transport system.
The ONE cards can be used for purchasing tickets and tokens in lieu of cash. The cards will be available for purchase in all metro stations and DTC pass counters, where people can easily get one made for themselves. Though the metros already have a dedicated smart card, the ONE card will be in high demand as it will be a common commuting card. The new metro cards issued will be the ONE cards, while existing metro cards will continue to work.
