The new museums at Red Fort were inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi a week back on January 23. To give it a more historical aura, the museums will be located in the British barracks within the fort. The museum at Barrack 1 is all about First War of Indian Independence 1857 while the other museum at Barrack 2 contains specimens and information on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. A third museum at Barrack 3 will cover topics around Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the INA movement, while Barrack 4 will be a collaboration between ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) and Delhi Art Gallery.

The aim of the museums is to educate the masses in the most interactive way possible. They want people to understand and take in the historical importance of the artefacts in the museum as well as be proud of their varied heritage. The museum not will not only attract tourists, but will catch their interests as it perfectly encapsulates the struggle of the Indian Freedom Movement.

The entry fees for the museum will be a little higher than what is normally expected. A notification by ASI confirmed that Indians and visitors from SAARC countries will have to pay ₹30 in cash or ₹21 for cashless payment. Foreigners on the other hand, will be charged ₹350 or ₹320 depending on their mode of payment. The fort’s old museums, which were located in Naubat Khana and Mumtaz Mahal, had ₹5 as the entry fee.
