Every winter, Delhi is known to have some of the most cold temperatures. This time around, things have taken a turn for the unpredictable as the temperatures have dipped to some of the lowest in the past 100 years.

Interestingly enough, this December happens to be the second coldest one in the past 119 years. This in itself took many, including the Meteorological department by surprise. Here's all you need to know about one of the coldest December in the past 119 years.

What's the update?

This tuesday, Delhiites woke up to a chill that was complemented by heavy fog and other weather extremes. It is no denying that each year, Delhi has extremely low temperatures but this year, even the Met department could not predict the sudden dip. With the lowest temperature falling below 10 degrees C, Delhiites shivered under a blanket of fog.

The last time such low temperatures in Delhi were seen was at 1997 and before that 1901. This year, the low temperatures come as a result of a lack of winds and high moisture content in the atmosphere. In turn, this led to obscenely low temperatures, which put a halt to almost everything in the city.

Throughout the day, the thick layer of fog didn't let in the sun, which made matters even worse for localites. In certain parts of the city however, there was a bit of a clearing, which came as a much needed relief to Delhiites.

What can you do about it?

All across the city, many were seen warming themselves around the common impromptu bonfires that come up at every other corner during the winters. Other than that, many stayed in to protect themselves from the cold.

Since this was one of the coldest December, Delhiites were left stumped and with nowhere to go.

Knock Knock

The second coldest December in Delhi has naturally made a name for itself. Since temperatures are constantly on a low, the mercury could even dip lower in the coming days and the month of January should be greeted with much anticipation and warm clothes.
