An outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been plaguing citizens globally and with each passing day, the mortality rates have been on a fluctuating ride. Since COVID-19 has promptly risen up as a pandemic disease, people have been fretting to keep it at bay and this universal chaos, has led to the promulgation of wrong and ambiguous informations as well.

So to ease out your anxiety pertaining to this fairly new disease, we've put together a list of dos and don'ts which should be handy in your pursuit of staying safe from the upsurge of this disease.

Stay at home

Do stay at home as much as possible (can hear the introverts shouting hallelujah) and consider taking extra precautions! Sanitize whatever you use and prohibit the entry of visitors to major extents. If you have a guest over, make sure to keep him/her confined to certain areas of your house instead of letting him/her stroll all around. Make sure to use 'please' to make it sound courteous.

Wash your hands frequently

This should be followed even without a pandemic hanging over your head but now, make sure to wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with a proper hand wash. Take cues from Lady Macbeth! Proper handwashing not only reduces the spread of COVID-19 but it can also prevent the proliferation of other viral illnesses such as cold and flu.

Maintain social distancing

Of course, not all of us are privileged enough to stay at home even during such conditions and at certain times, going out is absolutely crucial. So avoid public gatherings and places like the gyms and malls as much as you can because you'll never know, who has sneezed where or on what! Maintain a safe distance from people and practice self-isolation if needed.

Don't touch your face, eyes & mouth

Your hands have a mind of their own! Even without you knowing, you end up touching surfaces which can lead you to picking up various viruses. Once contaminated, your hands can transfer these viruses to your body through the eyes, nose or mouth. So avoid touching your face, no matter how difficult it is.

Use an alcohol based sanitizer

Hand hygiene has become primarily significant at this point. The use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers with greater than 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol, is the preferred form of hand sanitizing methods right now. But remember, although hand sanitizers can help reduce the risk of catching certain infections, not all hand sanitizers are equally effective against coronavirus.

Wear a mask before stepping out

The time has come where we need to wear an actual mask before stepping out because a 'happy face' isn't making the cut anymore. Although coronavirus doesn't actually waft in the air for us to catch it that way but wearing a mask will help you in keeping your hands off your face and from contaminants entering your body.

Refrain from eating out

Instead of dining out, consider ordering in but don't do it too occasionally. You might not know which piece of cutlery or food item has been contaminated and eating out will only increase your chances of falling sick. So for a change, you can even visit your kitchen to dish out some delicacies of your own.

Practice respiratory hygiene

Following good respiratory hygiene is the need of the hour. This means, covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow when you cough or sneeze. After this, dispose of the used tissue immediately! These sneeze droplets can spread viruses quicker than anything else, so be prompt about it.

Consume immunity boosters

Since this disease feeds on the weak, make sure to ingest enough immunity boosters to beat it! Feasting on Vitamin C based grubs, citrusy fruits and yogurt, amidst other things can give your immunity a major boost.

Be considerate of the elderly

Medical experts are stating that people aged above 60 are said to be at maximum risk. Particularly, the elderly folks with underlying medical conditions. Experts are attributing some of the risk to a weak immune system which occurs with age and during such a period, do be considerate of the oldies. Make sure to check up on them and try talking them out of their anxiety with positive facts!

Pay heed to the Government directives

The government is doing its bit in proliferating the correct information to ease out all our stress related to COVID-19 so be mindful of the directives being circulated. Contact the helpline numbers if required and read up the verified websites to be better informed.

Take your symptoms seriously

COVID-19 is deceptive. It might feel like an allergy or the common cold but be aware of the symptoms. Do not self-diagnose and even at the slightest of symptoms, do let your local paramedics/doctors know. Do not take the signs lightly because coronavirus can be fatal, within a blink of an eye!

Don't self-medicate

To date, there is no vaccine and no specific antiviral medicine to prevent or treat COVID-2019. However, in order to keep it at a distance, do not indulge in self-medicating! Possible vaccines and some specific drug treatments are under investigation and are being tested through clinical trials.

Don't forward messages without credibility

Sitting at home, may awaken the TED talker in you but it doesn't mean that you've gotta send out WhatsApp forwards and random information to people at all times. Just for the sake of being 'woke', do not dish out forwards and messages without checking its credibility and source. This might lead to further added confusions and anxiety; the two things we can do without right now!

Most importantly, DON'T PANIC

COVID-19 has undoubtedly left the world in a state of panic and commotion but do remember to take note of the recoveries as well. Just the other day, there was a news of 103-year-old Iranian woman who made full recovery after being in hospital for a week! That has given us all hope, so let's just keep our fingers crossed for a better time soon.

Eco-friendly Dussehra: 21 feet Ravan effigy to burn in Indore without fireworks

Every year, Indore celebrates Dusshera with extravagance and effigies as high as 100 feet accompanied by fireworks that lit up the sky.

Festivities have taken a subdued tone in the city of Indore with respect to the active spread of the coronavirus. Around 300 places in the city will witness the ritual of Ravan Dahan in the city, including prime spots of Dusshehra ground, Chimanbag ground, Vijay Nagar. However, all events of Dusshera celebrations in Indore will be organised as per the guidelines issued for COVID-19 control in the city. On the brighter note, this also means that for the first time Indoris will celebrate an eco friendly Dussehra.

Where every year, effigies as high as 100 feet, accompanied by firecrackers lit up the city skies, Dusshera 2020, will witness an absence of lavishness. This year, a symbolic Raavan Dahan will take place in Indore, upholding the city tradition. Effigies no higher than 21 feet will be alighted, and fireworks will stand cancelled. Further no participants will be invited to burn the city.

Mumbai takes COVID-19 precaution: BMC say, sear masks or sweep roads for one hour

BMC has indulged in active campaigns to promote the use of masks in public place to arrest the spread of coronavirus

In a bid to encourage people to wear masks in public areas, the BMC has levied community service of sweeping roads or cleaning graffiti of the city walls upon citizen violators who refuse to wear a mask or pay the due fine for the same. This punitive action has been implied under the by-laws of the BMC's Solid Waste Management, which authorises the civic body to impose community service upon the public for spitting on the road.

The number of new Covid-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh is declining and the recovery rate has increased to 91.91 per cent. In the last 24 hours, 2178 new cases were reported in the state, said the Health Department. State capital, Lucknow too is showing amazing results. Out of 61,472 cases, 57,228 have recovered while 3395 are currently undergoing treatment in the city.
