Knocksense: A local content and recommendations platform

Noida’s latest metro line, the Aqua Line has been a massive hit amongst commuters across all strata of life. In just a few weeks of its inception, it has gained many dedicated travellers and has become something of a lifeline to the citizens of Noida. That said, the Aqua Line was not devoid of issues.

There were demands of a proper interchange route to the Blue Line and the NMRC have catered to that. Another, more pressing demand in the Aqua Line is for women’s only coaches, which is yet to be delivered.

What’s the update?

Since the Aqua Line has begun, it has faced a number of issues and a demand for a women’s only coach has been around from the start. Though several other issues of the metro have been dealt with, this one is one of the more pressing matters.

Women’s coaches in Delhi metro were implemented in 2010, after eight years of the rail system and as of now, no specific reason has been given as to why the Aqua Line has no such coach. The demand for this coach has been increasing and female travellers are eagerly waiting for the coach.

Several officials of the NMRC have stated that as of now, they see no need for the coach and if the demand is pressed further, they will discuss the possibility.

Women’s coaches on Yellow Line

Why the need?

Female travellers of the metro have been used to the separate metro coach and there is no denying that it does ensure a safer travel for them. The coaches have been a vital part in the success of the Delhi metro and ensures that women also get a chance to commute seamlessly and securely in the metro.

Apart from the demand of commuters, the Aqua Line seems to be doing rather well when it comes to footfall and ridership. Owing to the new parking lots in the Aqua Line metro station, it has seen a 30% increase in footfall since it first started out. On the first day, the Aqua Line had a ridership of 13,000 commuters which has risen to 17,000 in just a little over a month.

On the Aqua Line, the trains make over 160 trips in a day and have a frequency of 10-15 minutes, depending on the time of day. To make the metro more convenient for users, the NMRC had also slashed prices of tickets and tokens for travellers on Sundays and national holidays.

The Aqua Line is a great boon of the residents of Noida and the extension of the Blue Line adds to the convenience. With the implementation of the women’s coaches, the metro route could see a further increase in footfall.
