The original film that released in 1995 was directed by Varun’s father David Dhawan and the remake too is being directed by him only. The film starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in lead roles. The comedy film revolves around a con: a matchmaker teaches an arrogant businessman a lesson by passing off a railway coolie as the heir to a fortune by getting a railway coolie (Govinda) married to the businessman’s daughter (Karisma).
After playing Salman Khan’s role in Judwaa’s remake, actor Varun Dhawan will replace veteran Govinda from the original in this remake. Whereas, actress Sara Ali Khan will be seen opposite him, filling in for Karisma Kapoor from the original.
Sara also took to Instagram and shared a same photograph of a badge that the coolies wear which was shared by Varun. It said: "W. RLY. No. 1 licensed porter".
The film is expected to have the two super-hit songs from the original film, “Husn hai suhaana” and “Main toh raste se jaa raha tha”.
The film is being produced by Vashu Bhagnani under the banner of Pooja Films. After "Mein Tera Hero"(2014), and "Judwaa 2"(2017), the "Coolie No. 1" remake marks the third collaboration between father and son, David and Varun Dhawan.
It will be really interesting to see whether the remake will be able to impress the audience as much as the original. We’ll find that out when the film hits the screens on 1st May, 2020.
