The lockdown has given birth to many game changers, who have come up with innovations and reinventions to adapt to the new normal. On a similar note, Mumbai-based George Dsouza has invented an eco-friendly electric bike in Goa with limited resources and a vision to do something substantial in life, which would also benefit his immediate environment. The bike, Genesis, is worth ₹12,000 and it will significantly reduce pollution which is the absolute need of the hour.
George’s electric bike in Goa
The word ‘Genesis’ signifies a new beginning and this electric bike has been a life-changer for George. The bike runs on 48V Lithium Phosphate battery with 750 W motor with chassis made out of MS Pipes. It can go to 50 km/hr on a smooth road but due to RTO restrictions, the speed is locked within the range of 25km-30 km/hr. No license or registration is needed for the e-bike.
Talking about the journey
The idea of developing an electric bike came to DSouza’s mind during the lockdown period with his back against the wall. But the motivation to create something useful, overpowered him and thus, Genesis was birthed. Mr. Paul Fernandes, a factory owner by profession, gave Mr. DSouza the work space to make this pollution-free bike. The blueprint of the bike was created by George and he was assisted by Nabil and Ibrahim, who helped him in turning his dreams into a reality.
George has always been fascinated with bikes and cars, as his father used to take him to garages during his childhood, which made him fall in love with automobiles. “No matter what comes in life, you need to back yourself”, George was quoted saying.

This venture truly deserves our attention, as innovations like these are truly needed during such times when pollution levels are soaring. Hopefully, citizens will take a cue from this project and do their bit in curbing toxic emissions, shrinking wastage and saving the environment.
