Delhi railway stations are some of busiest in the country, which is why it is important for them to have proper facilities. With the new budget being allocated, railway stations in the capital will see some improvement in passenger amenities over the next few months.
Though there is no budget for any new projects, this one will be used for implementing and introducing a plethora of amenities that will make commuting from stations in Delhi a better experience.
According to reports, a total of ₹8.5 lakh has been sanctioned for improvements at New Delhi station and for Old Delhi station a sum of ₹8 lakhs has been allotted. Additionally, costs for escalators and improvement of platform surfaces have also been taken into consideration. The budget has sanctioned funds for the extension of platforms on the Ring Railway route, which is a suburban Delhi Railway system. Apart from that, a new railway line will be constructed between Delhi and Alwar, covering a distance of over 100 kilometers.
Apart from the developments in the railway stations which include rework of platforms and installation of escalators, other developments are also lined up. One of these is a centre for railway information system which will come up in Chanakyapuri and has a sanctioned cost of ₹20 lakhs. Renovations at the National Rail Museum will soon be underway and they include upkeep and regular maintenance of the museum. The sanctioned cost for this is ₹60 lakhs.
The railway stations at Delhi could certainly use a makeover and we feel that it's high time that some action was taken. With the new developments, railway stations at Delhi will surely ensure a better and more convenient travel to commuters.
