Knocksense: A local content and recommendations platform

The recently launched, Noida’s Aqua Line metro, has seen a deterioration in the number of riders. In just a week, commuters have brought to light several problems with the metro. In order to tackle the falling footfall of the metro, the authorities are planning to connect the Aqua Line to the Blue Line, one of the busiest metro routes in Delhi.

Currently, the Aqua Line connects Noida Sector 51 to Bus Depot Greater Noida. In order to get to Noida Sector 51 metro station, commuters have to exit Botanical Garden and get a different means of transport such as an auto or a bus that connects them to Sector 51. The goal of the Blue Line connectivity is to do away with this time consuming transfer.

After the change, commuters will directly be able to board trains on the Aqua Line route from the specified Blue Line Station. With this, they aim to increase the ridership and appeal of the Aqua Line metro. According to the authorities, passengers will have to walk only 100 metres to the Delhi Metro Blue Line station, instead of travelling to other stations from Sector 51. NMRC also plans to ensure last-mile connectivity to stations as they have launched a number of metro feeder bus services in sectors between 51 and 76 in Noida.

As per the authorities, the changes in the metro routes should become operational from March, next month. Along with the extended metro construction, they also aim to make foot over bridges and provide connectivity through e-rickshaws, e-bikes and e-cycles.

Apart from this immediate development, the Aqua Line’s phase two has received approval from the authorities. The second phase of the metro route will consist of 9 stations, which will cover more areas in Noida and Greater Noida. To recall, Aqua Line metro was launched on January 25 by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The route is 29.7-km long and links Noida and Greater Noida. The route covers 21 metro stations, out of which 15 metro stations fall in Noida and the other 6 metro stations fall in Greater Noida. The minimum fare to travel on this line is Rs 9, while the maximum fare is Rs 50.
