A zoo, other than the natural scents, always reeks of childhood nostalgia when we used to go picnicing with our cousins and marvel around at the sightings of exotic fauna!

Under the animal exchange programme, National Zoological Park in Delhi received a new family member who’s lovingly known as ‘Vijay’ and this step has been fostered by Lucknow zoo! As a part of the exchange process, Delhi zoo will bid a goodbye to ‘Geeta’ on Monday and she will be headed towards the City of Nawabs soon!

But who are these two?

Vijay is a healthy 3 year-old white tiger and Geeta is a 4 year-old white tigress!

According to New Delhi Times, a zoo official stated, “The exchange is part of many that have been approved recently. Since we have a number of white tigers, the idea was to change the bloodline so that no inbreeding occurred and the offspring’s survive longer.” Once Vijay becomes familiar to his new environment, he will be released in the enclosure.

The exchange had been initiated 7 months ago and before it took place, Delhi zoo had seven white tigers out of which 5 were females and 2 males. This exchange is considered to be crucial for the conservation programme as the last two tiger cubs who were born in August 2018, couldn’t survive due to health complications.
