Travelling ticketless to save up a little or just for the thrill of it, is a major trend amidst Indians, wherever they might be! Upon detailed reporting, the number of such violators in Delhi is simply astounding- be it the railway networks or the roadways!

This raging issue has actually led to the rethinking of certain rules and laws and the authorities have come up with ways to deal with this offence.

So to curb the number of such defaulters, the amended Motor Vehicles Act will now slap a fine of ₹1,500 because travelling without a ticket causes major revenue loses!

More on this!

Before the new amendment, the fine for such an act was ₹500 by the Delhi Government but it was reduced to ₹200 by DTC, given the kinds of people travelling in such facilities.

But now, a fine of up to ₹1,500 can be issued on law-breakers and it is compoundable to ₹500! As of now, the Delhi Traffic Police and Transport Department are only issuing court challans but as soon as this rule becomes notified by the Delhi Government, the checking is going to be tighter.

According to TOI, ticket checkers of DTC catch around 245 ticketless passengers regularly which leads to a loss of almost a crore a day! The DTC squad consisting of 1500 personnel check approximately 5,500 buses every day, including cluster buses and it becomes increasingly difficult for them to fine the defaulters.

Knock Knock!

Y’all better start paying for your tickets because in a bid to save some money, you’re probably going to lose out on a lot of it. If you’re not willing to pay the fine, you’ll have to face the music in court after that. We’re sure you don’t want to go through such unnecessary troubles, so no more free travelling!
