IKEA India: Swedish furniture giant opens its first small-format store in Worli

Spanning across 80,000 sq ft, this furnishing centre offers service in a compact space unlike the traditional big blue box stores of IKEA

Swedish furniture giant IKEA, a retail enterprise of the Ingka Group launched a small-format based city store at Mumbai's Worli on Thursday. Following its long term commitment to Maharashtra and India at large, this IKEA Worli City Store has been built on the lines of their Paris, Moscow, Vienna and Shanghai stores. Notably, this newly launched centre in Mumbai is IKEA's first city store in the country.


First-of-its-kind IKEA store opens in India



After launching two flagship stores in Hyderabad and Navi Mumbai, IKEA has finally set its foot in Mumbai by opening this city store. Unlike the traditional big blue box stores of IKEA, this pack and parcel home furnishing centre is a compact space spanning across 80,000 sq ft. Conceptualised to suit close-packed urban spaces, this small-format store offers the authentic IKEA experience and services to a wider customer base in the city.

IKEA sets up omnichannel shopping arrangement at Worli

As per the IKEA Store Manager of the Worli Centre, through the omnichannel shopping arrangement that has been set up here, shoppers can browse and order products from the furnishing range via digital channels and collect it at the store. According to reports, a total of 8,000-9,000 products will be available at the newly launched Worli City Store. Out of these, about 2,200 items are up for direct takeaway while the rest can be delivered home via digital channels. Owing to its virtual cataloguing, this centre is not only easy to access but easy to explore as well.

Future expansion plans in India

With an aim to reach 200 million people in India by 2025, IKEA is planning on expanding its operation in the country. Targeting the NCR market, the brand is all set to open its maiden mall in Gurugram. Further, the Swedish furnishing giant is planning on expanding its niche in India by setting up stores in Delhi and Noida as well.

Guidelines to keep in mind:

While children below 18 can enter the store after showing a valid ID, people aged more than 18 should be fully vaccinated to enter this IKEA store in Mumbai after having completed at least 14 days after the second dose. The revised timings of the store as per the latest guidelines of the government are as follows:

Store Timings: 10:30 AM - 9:30 PM
Restaurant Timings: 10:00 AM - 9:30 PM
