There's no denying that Delhi's IGI airport is one of India's busiest airports. To manage the ever increasing air traffic, the ATC (air traffic control) tower is a must. In order to accommodate the growing traffic, the new, taller and bigger ATC tower will soon be made operational. This is also the tallest ATC in India.
What's the update?
The tallest ATC in the country, here at Delhi had been under works for a long time. Though the construction of the same was completed a few months back, trial runs and checks were ongoing. Now that they're finally complete, the 103 meter ATC tower has been inaugurated for use.
Soon, the new tower will become fully functional. It will be used for daily national and international flights. Additionally, the older tower will also remain operational, in order to act as a support unit for the new tower.
Since both the towers will be functional, we can expect more streamlined flight schedules and better tracking of air routes. In case of a dire emergency, the expanded capabilities of both the ATCs will certainly be a boon.
Apart from just being the tallest ATC tower in the country, it also houses some new tech that is unlike others in the country. For one, it's got a special structure that allows it to withstand immense tremors and earthquakes up to 8.0 magnitude.
Additionally, it is also equipped with futuristic technology that allows it better reception with planes that are coming with newer technology. This allows for a future proof ATC tower that will stand the test of time.
With Delhi's ever expanding population comes the increasing number of travellers. IGI airport is already one of the busiest airports in India and the number of daily passengers just increases everyday. The new ATC tower is a step in the right direction and ensures that even in the near future, IGI airport stays well equipped to cater to the needs of flyers.
