Indore's traffic condition has been deteriorating since a long time now. Even with the robocop in place and several other safety and security measures that have been implemented across the city, traffic snarls still plague many parts of Indore.
Since Indore is on the fast track to becoming a smart city, it is vital that something is done about the abysmal state of traffic here. With this in mind, the authorities are planning to set up smart traffic signals that will act as the new age traffic cops. Read on to know all about it.
The new and upcoming smart traffic signals are something straight out of a science fiction book and will completely change the way people travel in Indore. The authorities made this decision to implement new traffic lights after seeing the terrible, mismanaged traffic.
These days, pretty much everything gets branded as 'smart' to make it sell in the market. The traffic signals however are truly smart in that they will read pressure signals from the roads and then automatically manage which lane needs to be closed and which one needs to be open depending on the traffic. This will completely eliminate the need for traffic cops at intersections and not only that, it will also make way for a more adaptive travel experience.
In fact, the signals will also be able to gauge the speed of vehicles and notify authorities. Apart from that, the authorities have given priority to ambulances and fire trucks, which means that they will not be fined for jumping the lights. In addition to just being smart on a stand alone basis, the traffic signals will also be integrated with ITMS technology which further streamlines traffic across Indore.
According to reports, the plan is to equip 50 crossings in Indore with the aforementioned smart traffic signals.
Areas such as Khajrana, MR-9 Square, Gandhi Nagar, Marimata square, Home guard T are just a few of the 50 crossings which will be equipped with smart traffic signals.
Using a combination of high end technology and CCTV cameras that will be installed at the 50 crossings, the smart traffic lights will be monitored day in and day out to ensure there are no rule violators and that the signals themselves do not malfunction.
