The Indian Institute of Management in Indore has collaborated with the state education department to induct about 14,000 women self-help groups and impart them with the job of stitching 64 lakh school uniforms. As per reports, these SHGs will undertake a ₹360 crore project and collectively manufacture 1.2 crores uniforms, in a time-bound manner.
To implement this, Indore’s premier management school, IIM-I will be curating video modules to train the women volunteers with the required skills. Sessions on leadership, task and team management will also be made available to develop an entrepreneurial temper among the SHGs.

Leading the state’s mission of empowering women, IIM-Indore will train and upskill women help groups in the state. This will pave a way of economic independence, self-reliance and sustenance to these groups. As per reports and comments of IIM Indore Director, this task will be a difficult one, considering the rural backdrop of the beneficiaries. Besides, these groups are poorly skilled and language too may stand as a barrier. The programme training and tools have to be designed keeping the target in mind.
Reportedly, the sessions will focus on enhancing leadership, team management skills, sharpening entrepreneur skills, account keeping in the stitching centres and management operations. Women from the self-help groups can avail the modules from the portals they will be uploaded on.

The Director of the management school also added that the idea behind this programme is to award economic independence to the women help groups. Training from one of the country’s leading management skill will further add value to their final product. Proper guidance will not only help to upskill the women volunteers but also pave the way of self-reliance and sustenance for them.
The officials also stated that this project will be the premise for drafting a long-term policy of SHG empowerment in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier also, these groups were roped in by the state school education department to stitch uniforms in the year 2018-2019. The experience from the training module will now be the guiding principle which will weave their future.
