A treasure trove of History
For all the history buffs in Indore, this place is nothing short of the holy grail. Packing in stuff from ages ago, it tells the story of Indore’s past as a place of worship for Gautam Buddha, then to the rule by the Holkar Dynasty, who left major points of interest in the city. Subsequently, they were overthrown by the British, who then added touches of their own to the city.
The museum does a great job of not just preserving it all, but also giving you a chance to see and know about it all, right before your eyes. One can learn a lot from the guides and the placards. What’s more is that the museum is consequential in giving you a whole new outlook on the Indore of the present.

What can you find here?
Everything that makes Indore the city it is today can be found here. Statues, Parmar sculptures from Hinglajgarh and a nice collection of coins and armour. Apart from that, you can also find medieval and pre-medieval Hindu and Jain sculptures, which date back to the reign of the Guptas to the Paramanas.
The best part is that the museum has two galleries, meaning there’s a lot of stuff for you to see. Of the two galleries, the first gallery houses stone tools, ornaments and items of domestic use from the old days whereas the second gallery displays Hindu mythological carvings. It’s better you come here with a lot of time because there is a lot to see and learn.
