The 1,386-km-long Delhi-Mumbai expressway is being developed by the central government in a phase-wise manner. Being one of the major road projects of the country, the expressway will run through multiple states including Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
In Madhya Pradesh, the expressway will run between a stretch of 244.50 kilometres and will cross through Mandsaur, Ratlam and Jhabua districts. Now, the central government has proposed a plan to develop a new 190-km-long connecting highway which will link the city of Indore with the expressway.
The highway also will connect Dewas, Ujjain, Garoth to Indore
Reportedly, the proposed highway will pass from other major cities of MP including Dewas, Ujjain and Garoth providing direct connectivity from Indore to the Delhi-Mumbai expressway.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will undertake the construction of a four-lane highway in two phases. Under this, the authority will initially work on developing a 41.42 km stretch between Dewas and Ujjain, while the second phase will cover a distance of 136 km between Ujjain and Garoth.
This highway will be interlinked through an 8-lane bridge which will be built near MP’s Mandsaur district.
For this, the government has estimated a tentative budget of ₹3600 crore. Additionally, the project further ensures improved connectivity and will facilitate smooth and safe vehicular movement between all the aforementioned cities.
