Jaipur city hospitals and other Covid care centres have doubled up facilities in the last 49 days to counter the daily surge of COVID-19 cases that clock over 300 each day. However, in spite of these boosted services, the city continues to struggle with little to no vacancies in all 46 city hospitals, including 7 government institutions and 39 private ones.
Jaipur Hospitals vs Coronavirus
Jaipur has witnessed a 50% boom in COVID-19 treatment facilities as the number of hospitals providing treatment have doubled up in the last 7 weeks. In contrast to the 23 institutions on September 17, 46 hospitals provide treatment and COVID-care in Jaipur at present. State-aided facilities have also risen from 5 in September to 7 in the last 49 days.
With this direct increase, beds in wards have increased by 1,619, totalling up to 3,498 in hospitals across the city. While beds in oxygen have surged from 1,100 to 2,354, ICU facilities have risen to 855 from the previous 384. This increase has also reflected on ventilator facilities in ICUs which now stand at 283 given the addition of 127 new equipment. Despite these new treatment centres, COVID patients continue with the problem of no vacancy of beds in city hospitals. Around 7 top-tier hospitals in Jaipur reported full occupancy two days ago, implying ‘impossible availability’ of treatment facilities. Along with this, there is no vacancy in other private centres or government-run hospitals.
At present, Capital Jaipur has 4,547 active cases of coronavirus infection, highest across the state of Rajasthan. Besides that, the recovery count clocks at 31,080 while the mortality count surges past 384 fatalities since the outbreak of the virus.

The shortage of treatment facilities despite an active surge spells danger for the city of Jaipur, especially in the backdrop of the second fatal wave of coronavirus with the approaching winters. The state health officials and administrative authorities need to tackle this issue with effectivity and promptness. People are requested to exercise personal caution to avoid infection and help the state curb the infection spread of the pandemic.
