Known for its stunning beauty and awe inspiring architecture, the Pink City is fast moving towards a developmental path as part of the central government’s Smart City movement.
Among many development projects, one of the much awaited infrastructure development remains the extension of the metro line. As the metro became functional in 2015, it became the sixth metro rail system in the country, bringing it at par with many metropolitan cities of India.

In Jaipur, the metro runs across an impressive 9.6 km stretch of the city, covering important areas along the Pink Line. Originating from Mansarovar, in the East of the city, the Pink Line makes its way to Chand Pole via Vivek Nagar, Civil Lines, Railway Station, among many other stops. The route will soon be extended to cover Badi Chopar as well. This is just one phase of the metro and it is yet to expand.
The second leg of development is to connect the North and South parts of the city, making it easy for Jaipurites to traverse the city from all corners, without having to deal with traffic hassles. The new line is proposed to be functional by 2021 and will cover a huge chunk of the city- 23 kms, with 20 stations along the way!

Though the construction of metro pillars and stations will be a pain for the localities, its benefits will be worth the wait. The cityscape will be temporarily tarnished, but once the work is done, it will provide an amazing synchronization between cultural heritage and new world modernism.
