Climate change is real and each effort counts! Turning off idle taps when brushing or shaving, conserving electricity, using biodegradable or reusable cutlery - are all steps towards saving the environment and we’re all becoming increasingly aware.
Since the heat levels are on the rise and global warming has rightfully become a trending topic again, we should all put in our bit to calm down the gradual yet massive meltdown! Emissions are a heavy contributor to the changing climates and, to add to it, we have usage of plastic in every aspect of our lives.
So keeping the raging conversations about climate change in mind, in the first move of its kind, Jamia Hamdard has become the first university in Delhi to go plastic-free!
What’s The News?
According to SDMC (South Delhi Municipal Corporation), officials of Jamia Hamdard University have banned the usage of plastic completely in the university campus area. Starting from their canteen area to washrooms, every piece of plastic has been wiped clean off the campus!
After the extensive discussions which had taken place during the ‘Swachhta Pakhwara’ valedictory function at the Jamia campus, this act has been undertaken to discard plastic pollution! Approximately 9,000 students took a pledge to not use plastic products at this event and the proliferation of jute and cloth items were discussed too.
Single-use plastic items like bottles, cutlery, glasses and other products which are less than 50 microns have been banned here at Jamia Hamdard and a fine of ₹500 will be slapped on violators of this rule!
What we’re saying is-
Every single effort counts and going green is the only option which we have as of now, to reduce the harmful effects which we’ve draped the earth in. This move deserves all the attention and it is a much-needed change as well. We hope that the other universities will soon follow suit and this step should be applicable everywhere around India!
