In a move to boost connectivity across the city, a four-lane bridge will be established over Sarsaiyya Ghat in Kanpur, linking VIP Road to Barrage-Shuklaganj Road. As per reports, the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation has handed over funds worth ₹57.90 lakhs to the Bridge Corporation authorities, in regards to this project. Reportedly, the officials will use this primary amount for drafting the detailed project report, feasibility report and soil report.
Project being revived after a delay of 5 years
Reportedly, the authorities have decided that the project will be led by the UPSBC and the 3-kilometre long bridge will now be constructed at an approximate cost of ₹400 crores. As per sources, the scheme to link VIP Road with Barrage-Shuklaganj Road was prepared five years ago. While the project got delayed due to multiple reasons, it has been revived to ensure hastened completion of the bridge. As per a senior official, the planned facility will reduce the length of a 14-km-long journey to nearly 3 to 4 km.
Foundation stone to be laid before Diwali
Starting from Sarsaiyya Ghat on one end, the bridge will connect Trans Ganga City on the other side. With the launch of this bridge, vehicles headed towards Lucknow will not have to undertake the longer route passing through Company Bagh and Ganga Barrage. They will directly reach Trans Ganga City and take the road forward.
It is expected that the foundation stone for this project will be laid before Diwali. Given the fact that Kanpur is all set to get a mega cluster park, this boost to the road network will further help in accelerating business and commerce in the city.
